Mighty Masters Matchams
Report : Mark
Williamson
After what seemed like two weeks
of solid rain the sun finally came out for round 7 of the Hants &
Dorset championship, the Matchams track was as rough an tough as ever
with many a thrill and spill on the way.
Three different riders achieved
victory in the expert & novice groups on the day with the last race
deciding the overall winner.
Terry House, Lee Cummings and
Brett Wheeler were all race winners in a full expert group with the two
stroke mounted Wheeler taken the deserved overall, while House and
Cummings ate some Matchams sand at one or two points during the day.
Novice group saw some close
racing, to close for some! with Ashley Green taking the overall spoils
after a last lap crash between the two leaders handed him the third race
on a plate, he was followed home by Richard ‘Wilf’ Wareham on what
looked like a late eightys cr125. Third place went to a consistent Mike
Toon with race one winner Luke Prichard fourth.
Battle for
supremacy in the senior group went to Ben Weeden, who came out top with
Matt Ogden and Jono Davies making up the podium places.
Mitchell Bligh
once again proved to be on top form, taking the win in the Inter 100’s,
his closest challenge came from Eddie Yule and Lewis Cave.
Inter 85’s was
the Tom Rogers show, with Darren Wingar & Louis Schmidt the supporting
cast with second and third respectfully.
It was JJ time
in the Junior’s with Jorja Johnson taken the overall win with Jack
Dudman second and Kieron Whitlock a hard fought third.
Auto group’s
top star was Harry Pritchard who rode his little wheel’s off to win
ahead of Sam Lycett, Lucy Calvert and Jay Ellis with Thomas Shutler and
Oliver Curtis making up the top six.

‘The Wonder of Winterbourne’
Hants & Dorset MXC were forced into
a last minute change of venue for its summer 2 day meeting after yet
more terrible weather. Winterbourne Sickland near Blandford was the
chosen destination, after a lot of hard work and effort in such a short
space of time the track was ready and it was all engines go, even the
sun made an appearance.
Brett Wheeler
was the class above in the Expert group with four out of five race wins
only being headed in the slippery first race encounter by David Gain.
Second spot went to the consistent scoring Aaron Carmichael with newly
Suzuki mounted Josh House third, forth was a now fully fit Danny
Richards.
Ashley Green
was the holeshot king in the Novice group which went along way in
helping him to four race wins, it may have been five but for a slip up
in the first race which gave Bob Smith his opportunity to take a rare
win. Second place overall was new club member Jack French with
Stuart Barfoot third, Richard Wareham, Luke Pritchard and Alan Bungay
made up the top six.
The flying two
stroke of Stephen Bain took control of the senior group, he also managed
an impressive four race wins and a hard fought charge from dead last to
third in the other, his closes challenge came from race winner Ben
Weeden and Ashley Bailey with second and third respectfully.
Eddie was the
kiddie of the inter 100 class dominating proceedings with five classy
rides, a battle ensued between Ross Churchill , Grant Adlem and Mathew
Davis all weekend and finished in that order overall, Lewis Cave and
Chris Stuttle made up the top six.
John Cole took
the honours in the action packed inter 85 group which saw four different
race winners over the weekend, Jamie Mole rode well through out to
secure second with Jack Jenner a deserved third, race winners Luke
Sturgeon & Louis Schmidt were forth and fifth, Olli Jones rounded out
the top six.
A hatrick of
race wins for the impressive Jamie Carpenter pushed him to top of the
pile in the Junior group, he was followed home by race one winner Jack
Dudman and race two winner Brandon Scott, Kieron Whitlock, Bradley Jones
and Jack Perkins filled the top six places.
Harry Pritchard
didn’t put a wheel wrong all weekend in the Auto’s to earn him a
maximum, the closest any one come to young Harry was Oliver Curtis with
four runner up spots, then came Sam Lycet with a fine third place
followed by Harry Kimber, Oliver Loe and Callum Gordon.
Well done to
Aaron Thomas who was riding his first ever meeting, he finished all five
races with no signs of any nerves unless you count his proud on looking
dad.

'GREEN HOUSE' EFFECT AT TIVERTON
Tiverton in Devon hosted the
eighth round of Hants & Dorset motocross championship on the 5th of
August.
Nearly 180 riders made the trip
to the fast and flowing track which after an early morning watering
looked in perfect condition.
Ashley Green and Terry House
dominated proceedings in the adult classes, both securing three
untroubled race wins with the main battles left to those who
followed.
With House unbeatable the best
of the rest in the expert group went to Brett Wheeler who rode top
three all day, Lee Cummings took third spot followed by Aaron
Carmichael forth.
Novice group saw consistency pay
of for Mark Goddard, three hard fought third place finishes saw him
gain runner up spot behind the faultless Green. Third place went to Peter Barnes
on board his new KTM.
Last seasons senior champion
Alex Hussey made a rare visit to race at Tiverton, now riding a
250f Suzuki he showed the class which took him to the title last
year with three race wins, even with a ten second start line penalty
in the final moto. Two seconds and a third place
finish saw Ashley Bailey take a deserved second overall with Ben
Weeden third.
Lee Wren introduced himself to
the Inter 100's class with a bang also taken a excellent maximum
three race wins, his closes challenger was Ross Churchill with Lewis
Cave, Grant Adlem, Eddie Yule and Ed Turner topping out the top
six.
Three seconds added up to make a
first for Inter 85 winner Darren Wingar, he headed the double race
winner John Coles with Louis Schmidt third, Jamie Mole & Olli Jones
scrapped over forth and fifth while Stuart White battled to sixth
place.
It was Will's way in the Junior
group with Will Turner powering to victory in the first two races,
he was chased hard and finally beaten in the third race by Kieron
Whitlock who secured second place overall, Jorja Johnson rode well
all day for third place,Bradley Jones , Liam Compton and Jack
Perkins could also all go home happy after making the top six.
Harry Pritchard was again in
blistering form to dominate the auto class, with another three race
wins in the bag it was left to Oliver Curtis and Sam Lycet to give
chase with Oliver getting the closest finishing up second, Harry
Kimber was forth with Jordan Allen and Lucy Calvert swapping places
all day to complete the top six.

NO MATCH FOR SAM
Hants & Dorset met for the third
and final time this season at the notoriously demanding matchams park
circuit for round ten of the club’s thirteen round championship.
First to hit
the track were the experts and Lee Cummings did his championship
credentials no harm with a workmanlike display and two race wins to take
overall victory while Brett Wheeler rode his trusty two stroke over the
line to take the chequers in race three and ensure the runner up spot
ahead of a seasons best third place for Damien Weeden.
Sand specialist
Luke Pritchard continued where he left off at Wareham the previous
meeting to take the novice honours again despite a huge crash in race
one. Ben Rose kept his KTM going all day and took a deserved second
overall ahead of Pete Barnes who endured the last race with a deflated
front tyre after drama on the first lap.
Matt Ogden
clearly enjoyed the sand by emerging as top dog in the fiercely
contested senior group. Ashley Bailey had a fine second while Stephen
Bain took third on terrain he makes no secret he loathes.
In the 100s
Eddie Yule and Lee Wren rode some really consistent races but not quite
consistent enough to dent the title aspirations of Mitchell Bligh who
remains unbeaten overall in the three visits to the Ringwood venue this
season.
Darren Wingar
recorded a brilliant hat-trick of wins to take maximum points in the 85
class. A two way tie between Jamie Mole and Louis Schmidt was settled
with Jamie’s higher position in race one being the tie-breaker.
Jorja Johnson
built on her excellent third at the recent girl’s nationals to win the
first junior race but her hopes of the group honours were demolished by
Dylan Hodgkins who after a fine brace of second places took the win in
the final race to top the group. Jamie Carpenter took third overall and
was followed by Kieron Whitlock, Jack Dudman and Brad Jones to complete
the top six.
Any auto rider
who completed the gruelling demands of the matchams sand should be
proud. Sam Lycett went even better to take all three race wins and
maximum points. He was followed home each time by Thomas Shutler who
never gave up chasing while consistency went a long way for Jordan Allen
in third. Lucy Calvert gave Jay Ellis and Callum Gordon the slip to take
fourth overall.

Foxhills,
Swindon was to play host for round eleven of the Hants & Dorset’s Club
Championship and a superbly prepared track awaited the riders in near
perfect weather conditions.
Tom Rogers, the
club’s 2005 junior champion, took the first two race wins in the 85
class but a no-show in race three let John Cole take the overall with
his consistency while Darren Wingar, who took the last race win, made
the runner-up spot. The reigning Junior champion, Olli Jones, made the
final podium position.
In the 100s Lee
Wren powered his 150F up and down the hills with apparent ease and only
the efforts of Mitchell Bligh with his last race win stood between Wren
making a clean sweep of the group. Ross Churchill made third place his
own all day resulting in third overall.
The expert
group lived up to their name with some breathtaking action with visitors
Sam Sunderland and Ross Hill forcing the regulars to raise their game.
Group honours at the end of the day went to James Cole on his rmz who
rode at his best fending off Brett Wheeler with Aaron Carmichael never
far behind.
Harry Pritchard
returned to take top spot in the autos with two race wins; Sam Lycett
taking the final moto ensuring him second on the day ahead of Harry
Kimber. Thomas Shutler took fourth ahead of Callum Gordon and Lucy
Calvert.
Lewis Trickett
and Lewis Abbott dominated the senior class and both stormed their way
round the Foxhills track with only Abbott denying the KTM pilot coming
from stone dead last to first in the second heat. Whilst pride was at
stake for the visitors, points were up for grabs for the members and Ben
Weeden made up for his rotten luck at the previous meeting to repel the
advances of Steve Bain with Ashley Bailey third.
Liam Compton,
in the juniors, won not only his first ever race but then went on to
take his first overall to which he was obviously clearly delighted
about! Jorja Johnson jumped her way to finish runner-up ahead of Kieron
Whitlock who won the second junior heat. Jamie Carpenter, Sam baggott
and Brad Jones completed the top six.
Three holeshots
were still not enough for Pete Barnes to topple Luke Pritchard from an
untroubled maximum in the novice group, he made his way through the pack
in all three races and then cleared off to take the win with Barnes
second and the club’s safety officer, Ashley Green, securing third
place.
The clerk of
the course and his deputies all deserve an extra pat on the back for
their tireless treks up and down the steep slopes attending to incidents
and so ensuring the event ran as safe and smooth as it did.

Hants &
Dorset staged round twelve of the club’s championship at the Silent
Woman track at Wareham which, after two days of digging and grading by
the club’s committee plus a Saturday afternoon downpour ensured the
track was in superb condition.
The novices had the benefit
of being the first out this week and Ashley Clarke stormed through the
pack to take the first race win but was left to curse a a seventh in the
second race after getting stuck in the start gate. This meant a third
overall behind Ashley Green. Luke Pritchard, who has shown tremendous
improvement since switching to an 07 Yamaha, took his fourth overall win
in as many meetings after winning the last two races.
Next out were
the 85s and Jamie Mole took races two and three to ensure himself of
first overall ahead of one of the group’s regular front runners, Darren
Wingar. Stuart Whites’ race results got better as the day and track wore
on and third overall was his reward.
Even after the
unfortunate incident of having both his race bikes cruelly relieved from
him earlier this year, Mitchell Bligh has been no stranger to the top
spot in the inter 100s and this weekend was no exception with a maximum
scorecard. Eddie Yule was never out of the top three to take second
overall with Ross Churchill completing the top three.
Brett Wheeler
achieved overall honours in the expert class after some excellent racing
with 2005 expert champ Phil Lewis and eventual runner up on the day Lee Cummings
who bagged victory in the last two races. They tied on points but
Wheeler took it by virtue of his run away first race win. Dean taylor
and Marcus Feltham had some cracking duels and after two races were dead
level but Taylor settled it by a cheeky last lap manoeuvre round fourth
placed Feltham in the final outing.
In the autos
Sam Lycett followed Harry Pritchard home in the first race but returned
the favour to take the second race although Harry took the overall.
Oliver Curtis skipped across the sandy terrain to take third, after
tying with Jordan Allen who was fourth overall, due to his better first
race result.
Tom White rode
his best races this season in the senior group with even a holeshot in
race three and, whilst he benefited from Alex Hussey’s dnf in race two,
it was a fine achievement to score his first race win and first overall
to go with it in this very closely fought group. And just to prove this
point the next four riders were separated by just two points with rookie
senior rider Stephen Bain using his pair of thirds to secure third place
behind the more experienced senior Crag Durston.
With three
different race winners on the day, consistency was the key to take the
number one spot in the juniors and Jack Dudman was never out of the top
three after a fine win in the first outing. In fact the result of that
first race ie Kieron Whitlock second and Jorja Johnson third was to be
the eventual result for the day.

2007 ANNUAL REVIEW
WHILST the 2007 season was
blighted by a wet summer and dire rain, the action on the track was to
be anything but; even the final two block round at Henstridge in the
ubiquitous rain being many a spectators’ highlight of the season,
watching riders slip and slide around whilst battling for those precious
last few championship points.
Lee Cummings wrapped up the
expert group in fine style with plenty of race wins and overalls to his
name. Given a few more holeshots it could have been easier for him to
break away from the dogged efforts of two stroke mounted Brett Wheeler
who was never far behind Lee’s booming KTM all season. Josh House, gated
well as usual and to finish behind these two must make relinquishing his
expert crown a little less painful.
Whilst Ashley Green was
probably the ante post favourite to take the years novice honours no-one
had told Mike Toon who sprang out of the traps early on and gave the
others plenty to think about to take a ten point lead by round four. Ash
knuckled down to grind out the results and take the championship whilst
Mike, suffering from tennis elbow, dodged the late season charge from
ever improving Luke Pritchard to hold on to second place.
The top five of this years
senior crop all tasted overall championship honours at one time or other
during the season but it was Ben Weeden’s name that frequented the top
rung more than any other and this helped him to win the group (and
forget last season’s injury) leaving Steve Bain and Craig Durston to
battle for the final podium placings ahead of senior veterans Chris Cave
and Tom White.
Mitchell Bligh fully deserved
to be crowned Big Wheel 85 Champion with some stylish wins and
consistency of the highest order, scoring 493 from a possible 495
points! Eddie Yule and Ross Churchill filled various places among the
top six throughout the season and invariably if one went missing then so
did the other, it was that close such that eventually they were split by
just four points in Eddie’s favour.
In the Small Wheel 85
Championship Olli Jones and Louis Schmidt renewed their rivalry from the
juniors and the outcome was the same with wet weather specialist Olli
taking the verdict to be runner-up behind the group’s run-away leader
Darren Wingar who had the group sewn up quite early on thanks to his
many victories and maximum scorecards en route.
Kieran Whitlock improved on
last years fourth place junior trophy to make it this year’s group
winner owing to great consistency, never being out of the overall top
four all year. Another to climb up the junior rankings this year was
Jack Dudman who was kept from the runner-up spot by the club’s best
placed girl Jorja Johnson.
Harry Pritchard took no
prisoners in his quest to take the auto title this year and at most
meetings the number sixty-seven bike could be seen howling along up
front. Although he didn’t have it entirely his own way, as both Sam
Lycett and Oliver Curtis popped up to spoil his party with overall wins
apiece.
