Bishopstone 13th April 2008
With the abandonment of the previous two meetings, the members of the
Hants and Dorset motocross club were keen to get proceedings underway at
the surprisingly dry and dusty Bishopstone track for round 2 of the 2008
championship.
Inter 100’s were the first to ride and a confident looking Lewis Cave
got his 150F smartly out the gate and took the flag in all 3 races.
Louis Schmidt gave chase and did his utmost best to spoil the day but
Cave was having none of it. David Bowen completed the podium placings
after some fine riding, the highlight being a second place in race two.
Next out with a more youthful look to the front runners than previous
years were the Novice group and ex Senior Luke Stephens blasted his way
round the track to record a maximum after coolly holding off the
determined efforts of Lee Cole corner after corner. The front two pulled
a long way clear from the rest but two stroke mounted Sandi Palmer never
gave up and was to be rewarded with the second place overall after Cole
slipped to 8th at the end of race one demoting himself to
third overall.
Harry Kimber took control of the auto’s and if not for the midday
sprinkle of rain which came down prior to race two it may have been a
clean sweep. Buddy Shipton stayed upright to record his first race which
led to third overall behind new member Oliver Lowe. Brad Cummings took
fourth overall from James Feltham and Aaron Thomas.
In
the junior group Liam Compton followed the trend of nearly all the group
winners of the day with a perfect 3 win scorecard ahead of Scott Newham
in second overall whilst last year’s auto champion Harry Pritchard came
home third overall. Brandon Scott deserves a mention for a superb brace
of second place finishes behind the faultless Compton and was denied a
top six placing due to a second race DNF.
Luke Sturgeon was yet
another to remain unbeaten after 3 races but it could have been so
different had unlucky olly Jones not bit the dust in race one and then
suffered a cruel blow up in race two with the race at his mercy.
Sturgeon led home a consistent Oliver McMurray while
Bradley Barfoot improved as the day wore on.
The ultra stylish Jake Shipton looked at ease on his KTM
and took top spot with a brilliant display of riding in the Seniors. He
was joined on the track by fellow maverick teamster Lewis Trickett whose
spectacular antics were captured both on and off the bike by the club
photographers. Ben Weeden took a fine second, thanks to some gutsy first
corner swoops off the start ahead of Dean Cummings whose choice of
mechanic may be called into question after the selection of a sand tyre
on the chalky, hard pack downs.
Chris Cave took the experts round the first corner in
every race and looks to have made transition from Senior to Expert with
ease. Unfortunately for Cave it was reigning expert champ Lee Cummings
who led the field round the most important corner of all – the last.
Cummings took all 3 for the maximum, after playing a sensible waiting
game to get past for the lead. Tony Cook was never out of the top three
and was rewarded with third overall for his consistency.
